What is RCNBackup web access?

Through the RCNBackup web access, you can safely view, play, download, and share the backed up files in any location with any computer.

Backing up the files is done by the RCNBackup program. You can view, download, and share everything that is being backed up through the RCNBackup web access. Using the RCNBackup web access, you can also play music and view photos and videos.

The RCNBackup web access has a new, improved user interface and many new features. For example, you now have more social networks to select for sharing your content, and you can also share files on web pages by embedding the code.

How to access your backed up content on the web

This section explains how you can access your backed up content on the web.

Accessing backed up content on the web

You can access your backed up files on the web through your browser.

Note: You can open the web access also by clicking the Open the web access button on the main page.

To open the RCNBackup web access:

  1. Enter the following web address to your browser: https://RCNBackup.ob.f-secure.com
    Note: To log in to the RCNBackup web access, use the same login name and password that you used in the RCNBackup program.
  2. To log in:
    1. Enter the user name
    2. Enter your password
    3. Click Ok.
  3. If you have more than one backup, the Select your backup page opens. Select the correct backup by clicking its name.

What if I cannot log in to the RCNBackup web access?

If you cannot log in to the RCNBackup web access, check that you entered a correct URL and that you are using the right login name and password.

You must enter the same user name and password that you used when you registered to the RCNBackup program.

Accessing your backed up content on the web through a mobile device

You can access your backed up files on the web through a mobile device.

The RCNBackup web access supports a range of mobile devices. Most modern smartphones are supported.
Note: WAP-only mobile devices are not supported.

To access your content on the web:

  1. On your mobile device, go to https://RCNBackup.ob.f-secure.com
  2. Log in using your user name and password.
  3. Select Sign in.

Recovering your password

If you have forgotten your password, you can recover it through the Forgot your password? link.

To recover your password:

  1. Open the RCNBackup program and look for the e-mail address that was used during the installation. You can find the e-mail address at the lower left corner of the Backup tab.
  2. When you have found the e-mail address, do the following:
    1. Enter the following address in your browser to open the RCNBackup web access: https://RCNBackup.ob.f-secure.com.
    2. Click Forgot your password?.
    3. In the window that opens, enter your e-mail address.

You will receive an e-mail message that has a link to the password recovery page.

How to use the RCNBackup web access

This section explains how you can use the RCNBackup web access.

Through the RCNBackup web access, you can view, download, share, and play the backed up files. You can publish your content in social networks.
Note: You cannot play or share your backed up contacts and e-mail messages. You can only view them as normal text.

The fully supported browsers for accessing, viewing and playing the backed up files are Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.

Searching for files and folders

In the RCNBackup web access, you can search for your backed up files and folders.

To search for files:

  1. In the Search box at the top middle, enter the name of a file or folder that you want to find.
  2. Press Enter. The results of your search are shown in the list under the toolbar.
    Note: You can sort the list by name, size or date, and you can view it in a List or Thumbnail view.
  3. Do the following to open, download or share the file that you found:
    • To open a file, select it and click Open.
    • To download a file, select it and click Download.
    • To share a file, select it and click Share.

Viewing files

Under the My files tab, you can view the files and folders that you have backed up from your computer by file type.

You can view, sort and select the files that you have backed up from your computer.

To view files:

  1. Under the My files tab, select one of the viewing modes:
    • List
    • Thumbnails
  2. In the Thumbnail mode, click a picture to open it in a slide show view in a Media Player. You can browse the pictures by using the navigation buttons in the lower left corner of the slide show window. You can also select a whole folder and show it by clicking Open

Viewing files through a mobile device

Using a mobile device, you can browse and view the files and folders that you have backed up from your computer.

You can also view the files and folders that you have shared with others.

To view files:

  1. In your mobile device, log in to the RCNBackup web access.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click My files to browse for the files and folders that you have backed up.
    • Click Shared files to browse for the files and folders that you have shared with others
    You can view the files either in List or Thumbnail view.

Downloading files

In the RCNBackup web access, you can download the files or folders that you have backed up.

Note: Through the web access, you cannot view Office files in the Media player. You can only download the files one by one or all the files as a single zip file.

To download files:

  1. Under the My files tab, select the files or folders that you want to download. To select all the files or folders that are shown on the page, click All on the toolbar above the list of files.
  2. Click Download. The program compresses the selected files. The compression may take a few minutes, depending on the amount of the selected files.
  3. In the window that opens, select to either open or save the compressed file.

Playing multimedia files

If you have backed up music or videos, you can play them though the RCNBackup web access.

To play your backed-up multimedia files:

  1. Select the videos or songs that you want to play.
  2. Click Open. The Multi-media player opens. If you selected several files, you can change on the fly the file that you are playing.

Deleting backed-up files

You cannot delete files or folders through the RCNBackup web access.

The RCNBackup web access shows the files that you have backed up from your computer. You can delete files only through the RCNBackup program on your computer.

After you have deleted a file or folder from your computer or excluded it from the backup, it is deleted from the backup and the web access within the set period (15, 30, or 45 days).

Sharing files

You can share your backed up files using the RCNBackup web access.

You can share the content in one of the following ways:

Sharing files by e-mail

You can share your files by sending your contacts a link to the shared content by e-mail.

To share files:

  1. Select a file or folder that you want to share. To select all the files or folders that are shown on the page, click All on the toolbar above the list of files.
  2. Click Share > By e-mail. The Share files by e-mail window opens.
  3. Select the recipients with whom you want to share your files by entering their e-mail addresses in the Recipients field.
  4. In the Subject field, you can enter a subject for your message.
  5. In theYour message field, you can add a message that will be shown to the recipients.
  6. From the drop-down menu at the bottom right corner, you can select for how long you want the recipients to be able to access the shared files.
  7. Click Share. The link to the shared content is sent and the window closes.

Sharing files in social networks

You can share your files in your favorite social networks.

You can select from the following social networks:
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Orkut
  • LinkedIn
  • Reddit
  • Google+
Note: F-Secure does not store any login information. Every time you share files in a social network, you must log in to that social network.

To share files:

  1. Select the files or folders that you want to share. To select all the files or folders that are shown on the page, click All on the toolbar above the list of files.
  2. Click Share > In social networks. The Share files in social networks window opens.
  3. Click the social network in which you want to share your content. A login window to the selected social network opens.
  4. Log in and follow the instructions on the screen.

Sharing files on web pages

You can share files by copying the code and embedding it by pasting on a web page.

To share files:

  1. Select a file or folder that you want to share. To select all the files or folders that are shown on the page, click All on the toolbar above the list of files.
  2. Click Share > By embedding. The Share files on web pages window opens showing a list of the files that you are going to share.
  3. Copy the code at the bottom left corner, and click Close.
  4. Open the web page on which you want to share the files.
  5. Paste the code on the web page.
    Note: You can paste the code only on a web page that supports HTML code.
    The files are embedded on the web page, and can be played in the medial player that is shown on the web page.

Sharing files through a mobile device

Through a mobile device, you can share files by e-mail.

To share files:

  1. After logging in to the RCNBackup web access, browse for the file or folder that you want to share.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Open the file that you want to share and click Share.
    • Open the folder that you want to share and click Share this folder.
    The Share page opens.
  3. From the list, select the contacts with whom you want to share the selected file or folder.
  4. Click Send. An e-mail is sent to the recipients notifying them about the shared content.

Opening files that were shared with you

You can open to view or listen to the files that were shared with you.

To open the files:

  1. Click Shared content > Shared with me. A page opens showing a list of all files that have been shared with you.
    Note: You can sort the list by name, size or sender.
  2. Click the shared files that you want to open. A screen opens showing the sharing details and thumbnails of the shared content.
  3. Click Open to view or listen to the selected files.

Viewing files that you have shared

You can view the files that you have shared with others.

To view the files:

  1. Click Shared content > Shared by me. A list of all the files that you have shared opens.
  2. To see the sharing information, click the name of a shared file. A screen opens showing with whom and when you have shared the content, the link to the shared content, your message, and whether the recipients have viewed or downloaded the content.
  3. To share the content again, under the Shared by me tab, select the specific link and click Forward. The Share files by e-mail window opens. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  4. To delete a link to the shared content, select the specific link and click Delete. The Delete links window opens showing the links that you selected to delete.
  5. Click Delete. The link was deleted. The recipients no longer can access the files throuhg the link. The files remain intact on your computer.

Downloading the RCNBackup program

You can download the RCNBackup program through the RCNBackup web access

To download the program:

  1. On the main page, click Download. A page opens showing information on your RCNBackup subscription status.
  2. Click Download and follow the instructions on the screen.

Changing the web interface settings

To change the settings, see below.

Changing your password

You can change your password to the RCNBackup web access

To change your password:

  1. Click Settings at the top right corner of the RCNBackup web access The Settings window opens.
  2. Under Subscription, click Change.
  3. In the window that opens, enter your current password.
  4. Next, enter a new password.
  5. Then, confirm your new password. You must enter exactly the same password as in the previous field.
  6. Click Submit. A confirmation message is shown that your password has been changed.
  7. Click OK.

Changing the interface language

You can change the language in which you want to see the RCNBackup web access

To change the interface language:

  1. Click Settings at the top right corner of the web access The Settings window opens.
  2. In the window, click Language.
  3. From the Select your language drop-down box, select the language that you want.
  4. Click Submit.

The web access is now shown in the language that you selected.

Reporting abusive content

If you have received a link that contains abusive content, you can report it to us.

To report abusive content:

  1. Click Report abusive content on the toolbar.
  2. On the screen that opens, describe the nature of the abuse, and if possible, identify the author.
  3. Click Submit.

When a report is submitted, we will review it and take appropriate action.
